The Author
Rene Fay is a writer of gothic dark fantasy and a critic of games treated as literary works. Their fiction is preoccupied with dying worlds, inherited obligation, and the moment at which a character discovers that the story they are in has already been decided by someone long dead.
Their current project, Eschaton, is a literary dark-fantasy Soulslike-RPG in development. It is a vast, punishing world of operatic boss fights and quiet reflection, where a vampiric plague has reduced Arcadia to rotting, bloody tatters and the Shaded must hunt the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to end the age of Plague.
Alongside the fiction, Rene writes long-form critical essays on the FromSoftware catalogue and on environmental narrative as a discipline. This site is the archive of that work.
